I absolutely devoured Knight of the Living Dead! From the very first page, I was hooked. The premise – a deal with a malevolent ghost to avoid a shallow grave – is brilliantly original and instantly captivating. I loved the dark, atmospheric setting of New Orleans, which felt perfectly woven into the story, adding another layer of intrigue and suspense. The blend of urban fantasy and paranormal elements was expertly executed; it never felt overwhelming, but rather, enriched the narrative with a unique flavour.
Amy Kincaid, our protagonist, is a fantastic character. She's resourceful, witty, and surprisingly resilient, even when facing the unimaginable – sharing a headspace with a bloodthirsty Black Knight! The dynamic between Amy and her ghostly companion was a highlight for me. Their relationship is complex, filled with both conflict and begrudging respect, leading to some truly hilarious and heart-pounding moments. I found myself completely invested in their journey, constantly rooting for them to overcome the obstacles thrown their way. The author masterfully portrays their evolving bond, making it believable and emotionally resonant.
Beyond the central duo, the supporting characters are equally well-developed. Each one feels authentic and contributes meaningfully to the overall narrative. There's a depth to them that goes beyond simple archetypes; they have their own complexities, motivations, and surprising layers.
